Present ISP connection is (100/5) but I might move to a location with ATT fiber (1000/1000), so my router should be able to handle that as well.
I also need my router to handle the high connections required for torrenting. I'm looking at learning more about networking, and maybe couple of VLANS to seperate my IoT devices. I'm not sure if I should spend that much amount for my use case. Tp-Link ER605 is the cheapest and lower end of my budget while Protectli is on the upper end. New MikroTik RB5009 (Backordered till end of December) ($200) This is what I have been looking at, in the order of preference I have set max connections to 150 and still seems to be too much for the router. Presently, my Tplink archer is bottle necking and causing loading issues I feel. I won't need a mesh system and single AP is more than enough for my home.
Main uses would be Unraid (Torrenting, Plex, PiHole, Home Assistant), couple of IoT devices, multiple laptops. I'm looking into separating my router and wifi AP. I'm a software engineer and DIYer so I don't mind getting my hands dirty and can learn, though I'm weak with networking (hoping to improve it). I have been reading about different brands and products, but unable to decide on what to get for my use case. I'm in the market to replace my existing wifi router (Tplink Archer A9).
